  30. 1.  WHAT IS SNAGIT/32?
  31. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  32.   Welcome!  SnagIt/32 is the Windows NT and Windows 95 version of the 
  33.   popular screen capture utility, SnagIt.  SnagIt has been providing 
  34.   Microsoft Windows users with an easy way to capture and print 
  35.   Windows screens since it was first released in 1990. In "Windows 3.1
  36.   Secrets," author Brian Livingston calls SnagIt "the print utility 
  37.   Microsoft Windows forgot."
  38.  
  39.   SnagIt/32 is a powerful Windows image, text, and video capture
  40.   program that allows you many options. SnagIt/32 is for any computer
  41.   user who needs to capture more than a few screens for any purpose, 
  42.   such as:
  43.  
  44.   o  Capturing screens and menus in a Windows program to create
  45.      documentation.
  46.  
  47.   o  Saving a screen to send to someone else.
  48.  
  49.   o  Printing screens to help plan program design changes.
  50.  
  51.   o  Saving a long window, even if it scrolls off-screen, with a
  52.      single capture instead of clipping them together.

  54.   o  Creating a multimedia program or computer based training (CBT).

  68. 2.  SNAGIT/32 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  69. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  70.   In order to run SnagIt/32, your system must meet these specifications:
  71.  
  72.   o  An IBM PC or compatible that meets the minimum hardware
  73.      requirements for your version of Microsoft Windows.
  74.  
  75.   o  Windows NT 3.51 (or higher) or Windows 95 installed and
  76.      configured on your system.
  77.  
  78.   o  A mouse or other pointing device
  79.  
  80.   o  For printed output, a Windows-supported printer that can print
  81.      bitmaps. (This includes most of the laser, dot matrix and ink jet
  82.      printers that Windows supports.  Plotters are not recommended for
  83.      use with SnagIt/32 due to their inability to print bitmaps.)

  96. 3.  GETTING HELP

  98. 3.1 Using SnagIt/32's On-line Help
  99.  
  100.   SnagIt/32's on-line Help system is compatible with the Windows Help
  101.   subsystems.  The SnagIt/32 Help file contains all of the information
  102.   you'll need to use SnagIt/32.
  103.  
  104.   To access SnagIt/32 Help, select Help from the SnagIt/32 menu bar, 
  105.   then Help Index from the drop-down menu.
  106.  
  107.   To get a quick overview of SnagIt/32 essentials, select Quick Help 
  108.   from the Help menu.
  109.  
  110.   To acquire information about your screen mode and printer type,
  111.   select System Info from the Help menu.

  129.   SnagIt/32, please clearly state the following:

  143.     v4.0  Text Capture - allows you to capture only text information
  144.           on your screen. An extremely useful tool when there are no
  145.           cut and paste options

  147.           Video Capture - allows you to create a "movie" of events
  148.           as they occur on your screen.

  150.           Improved User Interface - updated client area display and
  151.           menu options.
  152.  
  153.           Improved window selection - highlights the windows on your
  154.           screen before you begin a capture.
  155.  
  156.           Multiple outputs per capture - output your capture to file,
  157.           printer, clipboard & mail (or any combination) in one click.

  159.           Anti-aliased scaling - smooth images when scaling down the
  160.           size of your captures.

  163. 5.  KNOWN PROBLEMS OR LIMITATIONS
  164. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  165.     o  The full Text Capture feature is only available on Windows 95
  166.        systems.  SnagIt/32 will only capture text from the clipboard
  167.        on Windows NT systems.
  168.  
  169.     o  The anti-aliasing feature only supports systems using
  170.        greater than 256 colors.
  171.  
  172.     o  SnagIt/32 hangs on e-mail output on Windows 95 if only 16-bit
  173.        MS Mail has been configured (i.e. MAPI is in use, but neither
  174.        MS Exchange or any other 32-bit MAPI mail client has been
  175.        configured).

  178. 6.  SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
  179. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  180. 6.1 Installation Instructions
  181.  
  182.   The SnagIt/32 installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  183.   application.  You must have Windows NT 3.51 (or higher) or 
  184.   Windows 95 installed prior to installing SnagIt/32.  Setup will 
  185.   automatically detect the version of Windows in use and copy the
  186.   appropriate files during the install.  To install SnagIt/32, 
  187.   perform the following steps:
  188.  
  189.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  190.  
  191.   2. Insert the SnagIt/32 diskette into a floppy drive.
  192.  
  193.   For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:
  194.  
  195.   3. From the Start menu, select Run
  196.  
  197.   For Windows NT 3.51 users:
  198.  
  199.   3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
  200.      from the drop down menu.
  201.  
  202.   For all users:
  203.  
  204.   4. In the dialog box, enter:
  205.           a:\setup
  206.      (If you are installing SnagIt/32 from a diskette drive other than
  207.      the A drive, you will need to change the drive letter in the
  208.      command line above.)
  209.  
  210.   5. Click on the OK button.
  211.  
  212.   6. Follow the instructions given by the setup wizard for correct
  213.      installation of the product.
  214.

  216. 6.2  Installed Files
  217.  
  218.   The SnagIt/32 setup program copies the following files to your
  219.   computer during installation:
  220.  
  221.   dderef.doc      SnagIt/32 DDE command reference.
  222.   install.log     Log file used by the uninstall program.
  223.   snagit32.cnt    Windows Help contents file for the SnagIt/32.
  224.   snagit32.exe    Executable for Windows 95 & Windows NT.
  225.   snagit32.hlp    Windows Help file for the SnagIt/32.
  226.   snagtx16.dll    SnagIt/32 support file for text capture.
  227.   snagtx32.dll    SnagIt/32 support file for text capture.
  228.   snagww.doc      Macro for incorporating SnagIt/32 into Microsoft
  229.                   Word for Windows 2.0 and 6.0.
  230.   unwise.exe      Uninstall program used by Windows.

  233. 6.3  Uninstall Instructions
  234.  
  235.   If after installing SnagIt/32, you find it necessary to remove
  236.   the software from your computer, perform the following steps:
  237.  
  238.   Uninstall instructions for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  239.  
  240.   1. Run the Windows Control Panel
  241.  
  242.   2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.
  243.  
  244.   3. Select SnagIt/32 from the list of applications that can 
  245.      uninstalled by Windows.
  246.  
  247.   4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall SnagIt/32.
  248.  
  249.   Uninstall instructions for Windows NT 3.51
  250.  
  251.   1. In Program Manager, open the program group where you installed
  252.      SnagIt.
  253.  
  254.   2. Click on the Uninstall SnagIt/32 icon to remove SnagIt/32 from
  255.      your system.
  256.  
  257.   If the uninstall program encounters errors, see the following 
  258.   section for uninstall instructions.

  261. 6.4  Manual Uninstall Instructions
  262.  
  263.   If you encounter problems during the uninstall, here are the steps 
  264.   you can take to manually uninstall SnagIt/32 from your computer.
  265.  
  266.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows NT 3.51
  267.  
  268.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  269.  
  270.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was
  271.      installed. Click once on the SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press
  272.      the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  273.  
  274.   3. If you selected "Automatically run SnagIt/32 when Windows starts"
  275.      during installation, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  276.  
  277.      In Program Manager, find the Startup group. Click once on the
  278.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm that
  279.      you wish to delete the program item.
  280.  
  281.   4. Run File Manager and change to the directory in which you
  282.      installed SnagIt/32.  Delete all the files listed in section 6.2.
  283.  
  284.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  285.  
  286.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  287.  
  288.   2. From the Start Menu, select Settings and then Taskbar. Now
  289.      configure your Start Menu Programs by clicking on the Advanced
  290.      button.
  291.  
  292.   3. Find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was installed. Click
  293.      once on the SnagIt/32 filename to highlight it. Press the delete
  294.      key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  295.  
  296.   4. If you selected "Automatically run SnagIt/32 when Windows starts"
  297.      during installation, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  298.  
  299.      Follow step #2 and then find the Startup group. Click once on the
  300.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  301.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  302.  
  303.   5. Run Windows Explorer and change to the directory in which you
  304.      installed SnagIt/32. Delete all the files listed in section 6.2.
  305.

  307. 7. REGISTERING SNAGIT TWIN PACK
  308. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  309.   This program and its associated files are part of an evaluation
  310.   package copyrighted by TechSmith Corporation. SnagIt/32 is not in 
  311.   the public domain.  This program must be registered if it is used
  312.   beyond the 45 day evaluation period.
  313.  
  314.   Single-User SnagIt/32
  315.  
  316.   Registration entitles the licensee to install either the 32 bit or
  317.   the 16 bit version of SnagIt/32 and to switch between the two 
  318.   without further payment.  The single-user license price is $39.95.
  319.  
  320.   When you register SnagIt/32, you have the option of requesting a
  321.   registered version of the software on diskette or of requesting a
  322.   software key to register the version you have. The software key
  323.   immediately removes all registration reminder screens.
  324.  
  325.   Multi-User SnagIt/32
  326.  
  327.   Registration entitles the licensed organization to install 10 copies
  328.   of SnagIt/32, in any combination of 16 bit and 32 bit. A single
  329.   diskette is shipped along with the multi-user license.  The 10-user
  330.   license price is $200.00.

  332.   Registration Instructions

  334.   1.  Select the SnagIt/32 program's Help menu.
  335.  
  336.   2.  Select Register SnagIt/32 from the menu.
  337.  
  338.   3.  Click on the Registration Form button.  Enter your registration
  339.       information in the fields provided.
  340.  
  341.       NOTE: You must specify a name or company name when you register.
  342.             Your software key will be personalized for that name ONLY.
  343.  
  344.   4.  When you are finished, select OK. This will create a text file
  345.       called REGISTER.TXT in the SnagIt/32 default directory. This is
  346.       your registration and order form.  It includes a price sheet
  347.       and your Product ID number.
  348.  
  349.   5.  Windows Notepad will now open REGISTER.TXT automatically,
  350.       allowing you to edit and/or print the registration form.  While
  351.       you are editing, please complete any blank items, including
  352.       quantities, totals, and payment information. DO NOT EDIT THE
  353.       PRODUCT ID NUMBER. Note that shipping charges are only
  354.       applicable to diskette orders.
  355.  
  356.   6.  Return the registration form, with payment, to TechSmith
  357.       Corporation by any of the methods described on the form.  Upon
  358.       receipt of your order, TechSmith will generate your diskette or
  359.       software key. It will then be sent to you by the method of
  360.       your choice, either e-mail, fax, postal delivery or other.
  361.  
  362.   If you have elected to receive a software key, use the following
  363.   steps to complete the registration process.
  364.  
  365.   7.  Select the Help->Register SnagIt/32 menu item.
  366.  
  367.   8.  Click on the Enter Software Key button.
  368.  
  369.   9.  Enter your registration key, exactly as it is shown, in the
  370.       field provided.
  371.  
  372.   10. Press OK.
  373.  
  374.   Your software is now registered!  All the registration reminder
  375.   screens will be removed.  If you have any additional questions
